24. The Florence Dream

Yesterday we learned that regional trains, while slower and twice as long, are free with our Eurail passes compared to the speed trains we have been taking. This trip from Rome to Florence would have been the only reasonable trip to take the slow train though seeing as it was only 4 hours. Therefore I have not messed up too badly by learning this little fact this far into the trip. On top of being slower, it is the goal of all regional trains to be as LAVA HOT AS POSSIBLE. I really should have worn a t-shirt. or a swimsuit.

Florence is a great city to walk around as everything is located pretty close together. Our apartment was only 300 meters from the train station compared to the 2+ miles we walked to our Rome apartment.

Here's an exclusive. Most of our days are spent like this:

But today we actually got out and walked around to get accustomed to the city. And by that, I mean we found all the nearest gelateria locations.

Walking around also gives us a change to observe the people and get a glimpse of the culture we are going to learn about throughout the week. On our walk home today, Arden, Scarlet, and I started to make a list of expectations/goals for this week - excluding all the museums and attractions:

1. Gelato. Every day.
2. Rent a Seguay. They are all over!
3. Watch all Connor Franta Youtube videos
4. Take an epic Leaning Tower of Pisa picture
5. Learn how to spell Pisa (for Arden) check!
6. Make Brody order something in all Italian
7. Know the city well enough to lead the way to a museum - minimize passive aggressive leading...
8. Did we mention Gelato?
9. Learn the true meaning of "Renaissance"
10. Cook an original Florencian meal. It's hard enough to make American meals with the food in the local supermarket anyway.
