30. All Day Train Rides

Most of our train rides have lasted, at most, 4 hours. Today, our first train was scheduled to leave at 9, and we were to arrive in Nice, France at 4:15. So how do we spend all this train time? Easy! iPhones and sleep. Or look out the window, the last half of the ride was along the coast, so we couldn't complain.

Our plan was to take a high speed train from Florence to Milan, then two regional trains from Milan to Nice. We had a 30 minute layover in milan. We also had a 30 minute delay in Florence. These trains run exactly on schedule. If the ticket says 11:10, the train is pulling out at 11:10. So you can imagine our anxiety as we stepped off the train from Nice at 11:08, ran to the monitor to find our platform, and ran to the train. By the time on my iPhone, we boarded the train at exactly 11:10 and hadn't even found a seat before it started rolling. But now I know that we are capable of making 2 minute layovers!

This 30 minute layover was supposed to be our lunch break. Instead, we each had a clementine and two carrots for lunch. Brody was not pleased.

We arrived in Nice right on time and enjoyed the short stroll to our new apartment. The weather was great and the people seemed really nice. Or maybe it was the fact that there were less beggars. Either way, Nice is off to a great start, and I'm crossing my fingers for some beach time. Even if they are made from pebbles.
