29. The Other Side of the River

In the beginning of the week I made a list of things we wanted to accomplish. So here's the follow up on our successes and failures in this feat.

1. Gelato. Every day.
- check! I'm pretty sure we even got gelato twice one day.

2. Rent a Seguay. They are all over!
- funding for this went toward gelato. obviously a needed sacrifice.

3. Watch all Connor Franta Youtube videos
- close! Arden and Scarlet taught me a lot about the youtube world this week.

4. Take an epic Leaning Tower of Pisa picture
- This would have happened if ARDEN hadn't been the one assigned to take it...

5. Learn how to spell Pisa (for Arden) check!

6. Make Brody order something in all Italian
- he said grazie a lot. Does that count?

7. Know the city well enough to lead the way to a museum - minimize passive aggressive leading...
- Brody led us from place to place a lot of the time in Florence!

8. Did we mention Gelato?
- Yes. Even the 10 euro cone

9. Learn the true meaning of "Renaissance"
- Renaissance = rebirth. It was the time between medieval and modern times. We learned a lot about the movement through Florentine art.

10. Cook an original Florencian meal. It's hard enough to make American meals with the food in the local supermarket anyway.
- We had some white cheese of some kind on our grilled cheese so I'll count that.

Brody's favorite part of our last day in Florence was the gelato. We went to a gelato shop across the river and Brody took it upon himself to memorize every fact he could find about this gelato shop. It all started when our landlady told us about all of her favorite places to go around Florence. She described this particular shop as "Wow. So good" from then on, it became the "Wow gelato shop." Even as we walked up a huge hill to Michelangelo Piazza, for a great view of the entire city, Brody was spouting off random facts about the gelateria.

After this great view we went to the Santa Croce Cathedral. This is where all the most important people in Florence were burried. All along the floor were graves and some were even roped off making it more like a maze to walk through.

Michelangelo
Da Vinci

Galileo

Finally, it was lunchtime and we went to a pizza place recommended by Rick Steves. It was the best pizza I had ever had in my entire life. I always tell myself to take a picture of our meals out, but they smell so good I'm halfway through the meal before I remember.

To finish our last day in this city, we went home and all fell asleep. World traveling isn't for the faint of heart.
