10. A Day In Salzburg

Today we took a day trip to this great city, Salzburg! This is where Mozart was born and they built this statue in his honor.

Though most people say this looks nothing like him. Salzburg is also known for its advances in engineering. They created a water system that brought fresh water to the city and washed the streets every Thursday (flood the street day.) This system made them very self sufficient and healthy, which is why they were never wiped out by a plague.

Next to this water wheel was Salzburgs oldest bakery where we were going to be surprised with some baguettes and pastries, but it's closed on Mondays. Thank God there was a pretzel stand down the street that sold huge chocolate pretzels! Lunch of champions. In Salzburg Cathedral We saw some people doing extreme parkour, where Mozart was baptized, and some really cool ceilings.

Last year, PMO also came to Salzburg. There is a fortress at the top of the city where some people raced to the top. We went to the point where we had to pay to go further and took some scenic pictures. This year I got to walk the rest of the way up and tour the fortress with my family. We saw the "salt rooms", the old town square, the marionette museum, and the torture chamber where Arden announced "This is my jam."

At the base of the fortress there is a fancy cemetery. People pay a lot of money to have their loved ones buried here and as soon as they stop paying the annual fee, someone else is put in that spot.  It is also the model that was used to create the set for the scene in Sound of Music where the Von Trapp family hid.

We walked back to the train station through this street. It is famous for all of the iron signs hanging above the stores. Through one of the little side streets, we found the Balkan Grill. This place sells the best street hot dog I have ever tasted. If you're ever in Salzburg, check this place out, it's also called the Boca Grill.
