Here’s a quiz about
jet lag. The question is: What do you do when you find yourself wide awake at 3
am?
A. Turn over and close your eyes until you fall asleep again
B. Find a good book to read
C. Play a game on your phone
D. Get out of bed, stomp down the stairs, turn on the computer and the TV, make sure the toilet flushes at least three times, and repeat until the rest of the people in the flat are awake.
The answer is ANYTHING but D. My parents have chosen D every night this week. This is the reason we
have not been able to adjust to the time here and also why we started our day at
1 in the afternoon today. Luckily we hadn’t planned to do anything until after
lunch. We walked to Hero Square where
Mom gave us a tour via a Rick Steves travel book, and we admired the skill of the extreme bikers doing tricks around the square.
The walking tour
continued into millennial park where we saw a model Transylvanian castle that
was temporarily built for Hungary's millennial celebration, but the public liked it
so much that it was built permanently.
Through the gates of this castle we
saw the agriculture museum and ran into a street performer who almost got Brody
to dance to one of his violin songs.
Mom was really excited
to see the Grand Thermal Baths. The rest of us considered them glorified public pools. Bur
Rick Steves says they are the best thing Budapest has to offer. So Mom really really wants to rent, yes rent, swimsuits and try out the baths.
We also walked around and saw some monuments

The sand is supposed to tell the time, but someone messed up and it doesn't move anymore. So it's just there to look cool. |
We want to try local
food in every city we visit. Tonight we had dinner at Paprika where we tried
Wiener Schnitzel, turkey and peaches, and spicy chicken with noodles. It was
all perfect. But it made me miss the free refills of water we get in America.
My mouth is still on fire. On the way back I let Arden play with my camera for
her Photography class. This is our favorite.
