Today was another day
led by our new best friend Rick Steves. He has many travel books with walking
tours that mom has downloaded to her phone. We always take his advice and if
it’s not in the book, we don’t waste time with it. Rick took us to the edge of
Pest today right by the Danube. We saw parliament and many local statues that
mom told us all about.
|
Ronald Regan! Hungary likes him. |
|
This is a monument to honor the Soviet Union who saved Hungary from the Nazi's before they took over the government themselves. It is pretty controversial, and a lot of people deface it, hence the gate. |
|
Parliament |
|
This policeman statue doesn't mean anything, it
just won a statue contest |
|
This is Imre Nagy. He looks over to the parliament building to make sure they're on top of things.
|
Next we made our way
to Buda to see the palace that was originally built for a Habsburg royalty then
for an ottoman armory. It has been knocked down and rebuilt who knows how many
times, but that seems like all of Budapest.
|
St Mathias! |
|
And the girl who loved him, but could never be with him.
So she committed suicide. |
Buda is higher than Pest so we got
a great view of pest from above and I took pictures until my camera died. No worries. I had my phone.
St. Mathias was described as the
most beautiful cathedral ever by two ladies we met in Spar (Our local grocery
store. Also Brody’s favorite part of Hungary). It was very pretty with every
wall and the ceiling painted in different patterns. The roof was also very
colorful.
|
Check out the roof! |
|
All the walls are stenciled! |
On the walk back home
we just happened to pass that same little street vendor with the doughnut like treats
and Brody bought one for everyone!!
You need a family picture in every city!
